Early voting open now for the 2024 ACT Election

The ACT Electoral Commission is pleased to announce that early voting for the 2024 ACT Election is now open.

Starting from today, Tuesday 8 October, 11 early voting centres will be available across the ACT. ‘All ACT electors are eligible to vote early from 8 October and electors don’t need to vote in their own electorate, they can vote wherever is easiest for them.’ the ACT Electoral Commissioner Damian Cantwell AM CSC said.

Opening times for early voting places

• Tuesday 8 October - Friday 11 October 2024: 10.30 am   - 6.30 pm
• Saturday 12 October 2024: 9 am - 5 pm
• Monday 14 October - Thursday 17 October 2024: 10.30   am - 6.30 pm
• Friday 18 October 2024: 9 am - 8 pm
• Saturday 19 October 2024: 8 am - 6 pm

To find your nearest early voting centre, go to www.elections.act.gov.au/for-voters/how-and-where-to-vote/where-to-vote-early-voting or refer to the Early Voting Guide distributed to all ACT households.

‘The ACT Electoral Commission is committed to making voting as accessible and convenient as possible,” Mr Cantwell said. ‘Legislative changes since the 2020 ACT election changed the eligibility requirements for early voting so that all ACT electors can cast a vote where and when is convenient to them over a two-week period.’ Mr Cantwell added.

Editor’s notes:

• The final day of voting is on Saturday 19 October 2024, and all voting must be completed by 6:00 pm on that day.
• A low sensory voting centre is available for neurodivergent voters who may require a quieter, calmer environment to cast their vote.
• Other early voting options for electors unable to attend an early voting centre include postal voting, and interstate voting at state and territory electoral commission capital city offices.
