The order of candidate information below is an order determined by lot.

David POLLARD (Independents for Canberra)

A photograph of David Pollard

If you want change, David says that the strongest possible vote for change is to number Independents for Canberra candidates first, then other independents and minor parties that you can support. List the major party candidates next, starting with the non-incumbents.

David Pollard is a life-long local. He grew up in Kaleen, moved to Palmerston, and eventually settled in Crace with his wife and two children. He lives, raises a family, works, volunteers, and plays sport locally. Yerrabi is a major part of his life, and he will fight tirelessly to make it the best it can be, for everyone.

David has run as an independent in the previous two elections because he believes we need to change the political landscape, not just switch from one major party to another. An Assembly with an independent cross bench is better placed to deliver outcomes. David is committed to the idea that increased transparency and accountability delivers better outcomes.

David has a bachelor's degree in engineering (Software Engineering) and owns and operates a family software development company. Being a small business, David wears many hats including software development, operations management, contract negotiation, contract management, client relationships, product demonstrations, training, technical support, operational support, vendor support, and more.

David volunteers heavily in the community, with current and earlier organisations including the Gungahlin Community Council (Treasurer), the Crace Community Association (President), the ACT Council of Parents & Citizens Associations (School Delegate to Council, workshop host, treasurer), and the Parents & Citizens Association at his children’s school (President).

An Independent can bring attention to local issues that are neglected by the major parties, while adding scrutiny to Canberra-wide issues. As an Independent, David will be influencing how policies are made, regardless of what that policy is. He values evidence-based policy and strong community engagement.

Integrity is a cornerstone of David’s personal and professional life, and his campaign. He values honesty and transparency and hopes to restore trust in local government.

David fights for:

  • Community wants and needs as Gungahlin approaches the end of major development for the region,
  • Established suburbs that are ignored and forgotten such as Kaleen, Giralang, and Palmerston,
  • Happy, healthy, educated, and informed communities for everyone,
  • Trust and integrity to be restored to our government.

David will cast a lens over all government business to make sure we are carefully considering:

  • The environment and the climate emergency,
  • Housing affordability,
  • Domestic violence,
  • Mental health support,
  • Healthcare,
  • The future of education,
  • Social services, including disability, low-income, and indigenous support,
  • Cost of living, and
  • Support for local business.

As a member of Independents for Canberra, David has subscribed to a shared policy platform. He also has his own platform developed independently, with a focus on Yerrabi. Read more about the platforms at www.davidpollard.com.au and www.independentsforcanberra.com/policy

Gregory BURKE (Belco Party)

A photograph of Greg Burke

Hi my name is Greg Burke,

As a former jockey, family man and a resident of Ngunnawal for 25 years I am standing as a candidate in Yerrabi for the Belco Party.

I’ve worked in the hospitality sector and in different roles within the racing industry. I currently have a successful Jockey Management business and I sponsor racing in Canberra and the Queanbeyan regions. My passion is a viable progressive racing industry in Canberra and the Queanbeyan regions, which the ACT Greens want to destroy.

I’ve seen first hand the issues that impact the electorate that matter to them, the cost of living, law and order, basic maintenance of suburban infrastructure eg. Roads, pot holes, grass cutting and energy pricing increases and this is why I am standing as a change is required.

I grew up and was educated in Cessnock. In the late 80’s I saw an opportunity to move to Canberra, the current Labor/Green government have been in power for 23 years! I ask you, is that good for democracy. I’ll listen, so let’s talk.

At the ACT election in October, trust those who will always have your back.

For a fair go vote Belco

I believe after the global pandemic including many other relevant factors thousands of Canberrans unemployed and local business collapsing, housing issue is the vital in ACT, to change these we need practical people with practical solutions and experience to lead our recovery. Sneha KC (Independents for Canberra)

A photograph of Sneha KC

Sneha KC is a nurse and community advocate, running to bring real solutions to the pressing issues facing Yerrabi and Canberra. Having lived in this community for over a decade, Sneha has seen how our city has changed and where it needs improvement. Canberra may be a small city, but Sneha believes we are grappling with big city problems, and need proactive leadership to tackle them before they reach crisis levels.

As a nurse, Sneha has worked on the frontlines of healthcare, witnessing firsthand the challenges people face in accessing timely, quality care. Whether it’s long waits in emergency rooms or delays in surgeries, Sneha believes we can and must do better. Sneha believes Canberra must do more to retain essential workers, particularly in healthcare. Nurses and health professionals are leaving because of dysfunctional work cultures, high living costs and low wages. Sneha is committed to making the system work better for everyone.

One of Sneha's top priorities is improving healthcare services for young families in Yerrabi. Known as the ‘nappy valley’ due to the high number of children under five, Yerrabi needs better maternal and child health services. Sneha believes Yerrabi also needs pharmacies with extended hours, where late hour pharmacies could ease pressure on hospital emergency rooms.

In addition to healthcare, Sneha is focused on infrastructure. Yerrabi’s rapid growth has led to worsening traffic congestion, particularly on roads like Mirrabei Drive and Clarrie Hermes Drive. Sneha is committed to advocating for fast tracking planning and duplication of these projects to reduce traffic woes and improve daily commutes. Community safety is also a priority. Sneha believes the local police station is too small, and there aren’t enough patrol cars to respond swiftly in emergencies. Sneha will fight for more resources for our local police to ensure families and businesses feel secure.

Another key area Sneha is passionate about is maintaining parks and community spaces. As more people move into Yerrabi and block sizes shrink, these spaces are becoming even more important. We need consistent maintenance and more playgrounds for our growing community.

Sneha’s campaign is driven by a belief in collaboration, empathy, and action. As a community advocate and long-term Yerrabi resident, Sneha is committed to empowering our community and driving real, positive change. Sneha is running as an independent candidate because she believes politics should be about people, not parties. Her focus is on solutions that serve the community of Yerrabi and Canberra as a whole, not political interests. Sneha is ready to listen, work hard, and fight for what matters most to us all.

Vikram KULKARNI (Independents for Canberra)

A photograph of Vikram Kulkarni

Vikram Kulkarni believes that housing, healthcare, and education are not just political talking points—they are fundamental rights.

Vikram's journey from a middle-class upbringing in Mumbai to senior leadership in New Zealand's hospitality sector, becoming a general manager in Australia and a dedicated public servant in Canberra, exemplifies resilience, adaptability, and hard-earned success.

Residing in Crace with his wife, Kranti, and their 7-year-old daughter, Aadhya, Vikram is deeply committed to his community. As Board Chair for Palmerston District Primary, he improved teacher capabilities, boosted student outcomes, and supported critical infrastructure upgrades.

What sets Vikram apart is his deep expertise in both the private and public sectors. As a senior leader in the hospitality industry, he didn’t just manage—he transformed. His innovative strategies boosted customer satisfaction, accountability, and financial performance. He now applies this transformative approach to governance, prioritizing pragmatic, solutions-focused leadership that addresses the needs of Canberrans.

At Housing ACT, Vikram gained a deep understanding of the challenges of social housing and the hurdles many Canberrans face in securing stable homes. Addressing housing and the cost of living is at the forefront of his platform. He is committed to expanding affordable housing, reducing public housing wait times, and ensuring fair concessions and taxes. Vikram also advocates for lowering energy costs by increasing solar and battery access, as well as improving affordable public and active transport options.

For Canberra's economy to thrive, it must work for everyone. With his business acumen, Vikram knows how to foster an environment where enterprises and employees flourish. He’s focused on cutting payroll taxes, simplifying regulations for small businesses, and attracting skilled talent. Vikram dedicates himself to creating jobs and supporting families through strategic investments in infrastructure and business growth.

Healthcare is a pressing issue. Many Canberrans endure long wait times and insufficient primary care. Vikram advocates for a new hospital in Gungahlin to meet long-term healthcare demands. His commitment to attracting and retaining more GPs, specialists, and nurses is vital for delivering timely, quality care for all.

Education shapes Canberra’s future, and Vikram is passionate about equipping students for tomorrow's challenges. Vikram champions increased funding, modernised curricula, and expanding the Meals at Schools program and is committed to fast-tracking a new secondary college in Gungahlin.

Above all, Vikram firmly stands for transparency and accountability. The status quo isn’t enough. Vikram’s strong commitment to public service drives him to fight for a future where fairness and opportunity deliver real, tangible benefits for all Canberrans.

Transitioning from 'working within the government' to 'collaborating with the government,' Vikram is ready to serve as an independent force, free from party politics, bridging community needs with government actions, and fostering bipartisan solutions.

Vikram envisions a Canberra known for world-class education, where quality housing and healthcare are accessible to everyone, not just the few. A city that grows sustainably, drives innovation, and delivers public services that truly improve lives. Canberra—where no one is left behind.

Suzanne ORR (ACT Labor)

A photograph of Suzanne Orr

I never planned to get into politics. But I did want to work with my community to create change together.

I grew up in Giralang playing cricket with my neighbours in our cul-de-sac and going to Brownies at the Giralang Primary School hall. And I now live in Franklin. My first job was at the Sizzler in Belconnen, which marked the start of a 15 year career in hospitality and tourism. After uni, I worked as an urban planner in the public service.

Growing up, my family fostered more than 200 children because we wanted to help kids who needed it most. I learned we can do a lot to help each other, but sometimes we can’t solve all the problems ourselves. Luckily, we had social services there to help. It showed me that government has a big role to play in helping when people need extra support.

Since first being elected I’ve worked with people with lived experience to shape and pass legislation that makes our community more inclusive and supports those who need it. We now have laws that recognise the importance of unpaid carers in our community, to provide universal provision of period products and to make Canberra more inclusive for people with disabilities.

Working with community members I’ve ensured that local infrastructure reflects the wants and needs of the community. Together, we have informed the design of parks including Casey Community Park, Franklin Dog Park, and local parks in Ngunnawal and Kaleen. In Bonner, we secured trees for Mabo Ave and bubblers for the sports fields.

Working alongside local environment groups and community members we’ve created two new grassland reserves in Gungahlin, at Franklin and Kenny. In partnership with local Gungahlin cafes, we started a reusable coffee cup scheme. And in collaboration with local community services, we secured government investment in a Community and Arts Centre, which will commence construction this year in the town centre.

But there is always more work to do!

I want to see improvements in our town centre so that it is easy to access and vibrant, I want to see more sporting fields and facilities across our region so we can play the sport we love, and I want to make sure that as our community continues to grow we have the health and community services and spaces to support us to come together and thrive.

I want to continue to work together to make our community the best it can be and this is why I am again putting up my hand to be your representative in the Legislative Assembly.

Pradeep SORNARAJ (ACT Labor)

A photograph of Pradeep Sornaraj

I am a father of two, the husband of a passionate social worker, and an active member of our community. I am neither a career politician nor a political player. Like all Canberrans, my deepest aspiration is to create a better life for my family and our community.

After years of struggling to enter the housing market, we managed to save enough for a deposit for a home in Ngunnawal. I worked as a researcher by day and a security guard by night to save what we needed. When we settled, with no family nearby, I recognised the importance of building connections, especially for our children, and creating a community that works together. That is why I have been actively involved in the local community, striving to make Canberra a place where everyone can thrive.

Our Yerrabi, with its incredible diversity and vibrancy, has boundless potential and requires strong and consistent support, advocacy and resources to thrive. With my extensive experience as a policy advisor and deep grassroots connections, I am committed to championing policies and programs that will make a real, tangible difference for everyone in our region.

Our kids deserve safe and engaging spaces to play and grow. That is why I knocked on more than 100 doors and submitted a petition to the ACT Government calling for the refurbishment of our local playground in Ngunnawal. Together, we secured funding from the government to upgrade the playground in Burrumarra Avenue, Ngunnawal, which is now complete.

Recognising the issue of period poverty through my involvement with the local street pantries, I advocated for change, and now the ACT Government has made Canberra the first in our nation to provide period products for free to all Canberrans.

Building human connections is vital. After the challenges of the COVID lockdown, I organised the Ngunnawal Community Day to reaffirm our sense of community and belonging by bringing families and neighbours together.

Acknowledging and celebrating our cultural diversity is central to progress as one community. I continue to work with many grassroot community organisations to deliver projects fostering learning, inclusiveness, and social cohesion.

From personal experience, I know the difference that community-led, progressive and practical policies can make in the lives of Canberrans.

As your elected representative, I will put our community front and centre. I will continue to advocate for increased investments in Yerrabi's infrastructure, community facilities, and services, while also addressing our cost-of-living pressures. I will also support the ACT Labor's initiatives in health, transport, housing, education, and the environment.

As we approach the ACT election this October, I need your support to create a brighter future for Yerrabi. Together, we can build a community where everyone thrives.

Jason TAYLOR (Belco Party)

A photograph of Jason Taylor

My name is Jason Taylor.

I grew up and studied in Melbourne. Upon completion of university in 2007 I moved to Canberra to undertake recruit training with the Australian Federal Police. I have been in Canberra ever since!

I spent nearly 14 years with the AFP, most of this time was spent with ACT Policing; reaching the rank of Detective Sergeant. I worked across a number of areas of ACT Policing including General Duties, Criminal Investigations, Family Violence and Legislation and Policy.

During my career with the AFP I developed a real sense of community pride and passion for helping people. Despite my career ending prematurely due to a violent workplace assault and subsequent PTSD diagnosis meaning I could no longer do the job I loved, I have never lost my drive to make my community a better and safer place. So I joined the Belco Party and decided to run as a candidate in the upcoming 2024 ACT election for the electorate of Yerrabi.

As well as policing and law and order matters I am also passionate about mental health issues, addressing the rates of Family Violence in meaningful ways, and addressing the perilous state of the ACT’s Health and Education systems. And of course, local issues “good old rates roads and rubbish”.

As a resident of Yerrabi for over 13 years I have seen firsthand the issues that impact upon residents of this electorate, the things that really matter. Unfortunately, Yerrabi has been the neglected electorate for far too long under this government, the state of our roads and the grass jungles our green spaces and verges have become is testament to that. Although given that we don’t have a Minister in Cabinet representing the good people of this electorate, I am not surprised.

The people of Yerrabi deserve better. A Government that places ideology above the best interests of the community, is not a good Government. Canberrans are sensible people, and they deserve sensible people representing them in the Legislative Assembly. That is what I will bring to the Chamber if elected. In me, Yerrabi has a man who has spent his life protecting the community. Let me protect you and your family as a member of the Assembly and help “Keep the Bastards Honest!”.

I grew up in Canberra, and now live in Harrison. Before I was elected the ACT Legislative Assembly, I advocated for the workplace rights of local construction workers.

Now, as your Local Member, I fight every day to improve the lives of working Canberrans. From delivering better pay and conditions for workers, to supporting those who need a helping hand, I’m making our city a place where everyone gets a fair go.

As our city grows, I’ll continue to secure investment in infrastructure and services for Canberra’s North. That means new and expanded schools in Gungahlin, Taylor, and Nicholls; a new Hospital for the Northside; a new Health Centre and Indoor Sports Centre in Casey; and a new Community Facility in the Town Centre.

I also know that our roads need to be upgraded so that they can meet the needs of our growing community into the future. A vote for ACT Labor will mean that the next steps to upgrade Gungahlin Drive through to Overall Avenue in Casey will be undertaken in the next term of government. We’ll also work on a corridor plan for Mirrabei Drive to guide future improvements.

All of these projects will support local jobs and make our local area an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

I’m asking for your support in the upcoming ACT election because I want to keep building a better Canberra. Given another four years, ACT Labor will work hard on your behalf to deliver our progressive, practical, and proven plan for Yerrabi.

Together, we can make our community an even better place to live.

As a parent, a small business owner, and a member of Gunghalin community, along with my wife, Sharan, I’m raising our two daughters, Ishleen and Sejleen, right here in the heart of Yerrabi.

As a small business owner, I understand first hand the challenges of managing a business and the challenges raising a family. I’ve always been driven for listening to local businesses — raise them with elected representatives and try to find solutions for the people who work hard in those sectors.

When the pandemic hit and many Canberrans were struggling, I heard a call within me to step up. I along with other community groups was able to cook and deliver over 200 meals a day to those needy families, showing that community support is about action.

The people of Yerrabi have spoken clearly — they are seeking representatives who can represent their issues. They’re in search of a representative who can represent the vibrancy of multiculturalism in Yerrabi, who can take community perspectives to the government. I’ve heard from residents who are ready for a government that listens more closely and acts with responsibility.

This feedback has reinforced my belief that Yerrabi deserves a stronger voice, one that’s truly connected with the daily challenges of aspirational local families, small business owners, and seniors. The need for affordable housing, sustainable development, and better support for small businesses is at the top of my agenda.

As an elected representative, my first initiative is a “Clean Gungahlin - Green Gungahlin” campaign, ensuring that our region is not only well-maintained but also leads in sustainable development in the suburbs of Yerrabi. This includes improving waste management, expanding green spaces, and enhancing the infrastructure for clean energy solutions.

I commit to advocate for local businesses, fighting for better support, and promoting policies that make it easier for businesses to grow. Above all, I will be a strong, multicultural voice in government, bringing the values of inclusivity and community-driven leadership to every decision the Government of the day makes. The people of Yerrabi deserve stronger leadership that listens and implements — and I’m preparing to be that leader.
